Bachelor of Philosophy Honours in Marketing Management

Bachelor of Philosophy (BPhil) Honours in Marketing Management (New students from 2016)

The BPhil Honours in Marketing Management will be offered at level 8 of the NQF (HEQSF aligned) and will consist of 140 credits.

Admission criteria

  • A suitable Bachelors Degree on NQF level 7 with Marketing Management 3 as a major module.
  • A CV and motivational letter are required.
  • Any other equivalent qualification.

Applicants are required to complete the Postgraduate Application for Admission form for the BPhil Honours in Marketing Management, which, together with certified copies of educational certificates, identity documents, a letter of motivation and a CV, should be returned by registered post to:

A non-refundable deposit (see fee structure) must accompany the application form.

Applicants may be required to write and pass access modules before continuing with the BPhil Honours in Marketing Management.

The programme is divided up as follows:

  • Submission of assignments in certain modules. Please refer to the Calendar of Events.
  • An open book examination in certain modules. Please refer to the Examination timetable.
  • Completion of a marketing practicum. No examination or assignment required. There will be a practical assessment.
  • Completion of a marketing research report. No examination or assignment required. There will be a practical assessment.

The BPhil Honours in Marketing Management comprises of five compulsory and one elective module and is structured as follows:

  • AGM401 - Advanced Global Marketing 4 (20 credits)
  • AMP401 - Advanced Marketing Practicum 4 (30 credits) - practical assessment. No assignment or written examination required.
  • AMRT401 - Advanced Marketing Research: Theory 4 (20 credits)
  • AMRR402 - Advanced Marketing Research: Report 4 (30 credits)
  • ASM401 - Advanced Strategic Marketing: Theory and Practice 4 (20 credits)
  • Elective (20 credits)

Elective modules

You will need to select one of the following:

  • ABM401 - Advanced Brand Management 4 (20 credits)
  • ADM401 - Advanced Digital Marketing 4 (20 credits)
  • ASM401 - Advanced Services Marketing 4 (20 credits)

The BPhil Honours in Marketing Management can be completed within a minimum of eighteen months study. The BPhil Honours in Marketing Management must be completed within four years.

Articulation from the Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing Management to the BPhil Honours in Marketing Management

Admission criteria

Graduates must have successfully completed all modules on the Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing Management. Applications must be submitted within a five-year period after qualifying with the Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing Management.

The articulation from the Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing Management to the BPhil Honours in Marketing Management consists of two compulsory modules and one elective. The articulation must be completed in four years.

Compulsory modules

  • Advanced Marketing Research: Theory 4 (20 credits)
  • Advanced Marketing Research: Report 4 (20 credits)

Electives

Students must complete Advanced Services Marketing 4 (20 credits).
